REUNION STORIES

Lost: (Update: Please see below) German Short Haired Pointer name is Pepper. has a white diamond on the back of his head. Male 12 years old. Was last seen on Oct, 31 2011 about 6pm in Roberts Creek.

Update: A neighbour spotted Pepper on HWY 101 by B&K who stopped to call the dog but he ran away so he called Pepper's family. They went to B&K and found Pepper in the bush. They are happy to report that he is home and doing well. :0)

Found: (Update: please see below) This lovely girl appeared on my doorstep on Orange Rd. At midnight Oct. 31, 2011. She was very upset and scared.  She followed my dog into the house and would not leave my side. Your sweetie is waiting to go home.

Update: This dog is now back home. Misty had jumped a fence on Halloween night and was found by a family who contacted the SPCA. Misty's family also contacted the SPCA so a reunion was made possible. Great news.

Zachary, a 5 month old male, tabby with Bengal-Stripes and orange tummy went missing on Sunday Aug.28, 2011 from Sechelt. The next day, Safe and Sound Lost and Found received a description of a young tabby from the SPCA that was picked up in Gibsons and taken to their shelter. They didn't have a photo of him yet to send me so just his information was posted on the Safe and Sound website. Nobody thought this would be Zachary because it's an awfully long way from Sechelt to Gibsons in one day! Only Zachary knows how it happened. Tt turns out it was him and it seems likely that someone must have taken him there. Safe and Sound received 2 photos sent by the SPCA and it was clear that the Gibsons cat and the Sechelt cat were one in the same. Zachary's owner was notified and they picked him up at the SPCA the next day. His family had scheduled his neuter and tattoo for the end of the month but they have decided to get that done sooner rather than later and are so happy to have him home again. Great news! Below are some photos that Zachary's owner and the SPCA sent to Safe and Sound. Thank you to Barbara and her family for their kind donation to the Safe and Sound Lost and Found website. :0)

Ocean, a female black lab who is 9 years old went missing on Thursday December 2, 2010 at 7:00 pm in Lower Gibsons. She had a black collar on but no identifying tags. Ocean is a very friendly dog and will go with anyone looking for treats and loving touches.  She also loves her family and they really wanted her back home. They also mentioned in her posting that Ocean really doesn't like to be out of her routine.

And then on January 24th, almost 2 months later, Safe and Sound received the following email with the good news that Ocean has been reunited with her family!

"I am happy to report that Ocean has been found and you can remove her from your website.  I wanted to thank you for your advice, it was very helpful in finding her.  Someone had taken her home from lower Gibsons who lived in an apartment and couldn't keep her so they sent her to a farm.  It was hard to track her down but after your suggestion of keep looking and asking it finally came up!  She was flea ridden and quite sick when we got her back, but all is well now.
Thanks again for your service and advice. Jacquie"

Missing since October 27th, 2010, a 5-year old Siamese mix named Coco was last seen at his home in Gibsons. Bad weather came and went as did Halloween with no sign of what had happened to him. Thankfully, Coco's mysterious disappearance came to an end when his family heard him crying outside the door of his home after 13 long days! Nobody knows what happened to him or where he was for almost 2 weeks but his owner is very relieved to have him back. Safe and Sound received the following email from Coco's family the other day:
" At about 3am on the 13th night Coco returned in the pouring rain, starved and very stressed. He cried loud enough to wake me up, What a blessing I was home to open the door for him. It took over an hour for him to calm down and get all the sniffing done.

It is likely that he got trapped somewhere. I would love to have a tracking device that would trace his meanderings. Thankfully no worse harm came to him. I am watching him closely and he is wearing his name tag perpetually.

Thank you, thank you for responding so kindly and  for posting the pictures on your website. What a great service! PEACE, out Sylvia"

Hellian, a 2 1/2 year old calico cat went missing from Gibsons the night of September 20, 2010.  She is very petite, fluffy with a very long, fluffy tail. She is the family's eldest's first cat and she is heartbroken over the loss.  Ana has paid for all of Hellian's upkeep and care since she got her when Hellian was only 5 weeks old and they are very bonded.
Safe and Sound is very happy to report that Hellian has been found by her family. Please read the following email that was sent to Safe and Sound today:
"I am pleased to announce that Hellian was found by one of my daughters only 1 1/2 blocks from home on October 21 after being gone for one month.  She is a little thin, and has some scratches on her nose but is otherwise in fantastic shape.  We are so relieved that she is alright and Ana was ecstatic to have her home.  After some hesitancy in being around our dog and other cats she has quickly settled back into the household, and seems to be even more cuddly than before.  Thanks so much for helping us to look for her.  You are a Godsend!" Terra

BEAUTIFUL MOLLY!

Molly went missing in July but thankfully, she has been found (caught) after 39 long days! Here is her story. It is a wonderful example of what can happen if you don't give up.

"Molly escaped on the night of July 10, was seen by a neighbour early that morning and then no sign of her for nearly 3 weeks. Then there were a few sightings and finally, at 4 o'clock one morning, my daughter Wendy and I saw her on the path just down from my townhouse. Although she wouldn't let us get close, she stayed around for about 10 minutes, eating the treats we tossed to her, looking in pretty good shape. This lovely girl is fostered by my daughter because she is terrified of people and had spent four years in the shelter where Wendy volunteers. She loves other cats and doesn't object to my dog and even spends quite a bit of time in human company - always at a distance and always ready to run.
Once we had seen her for ourselves, we were relieved to know that she had not been killed by a predator, or locked up in someone's summer cottage or shed, or hit by a car and that, although she had only been visiting here for 2 weeks, she wasn't lost and could find her way to us if she wanted to.
We had used a live trap and tried to lure her in with bait but she never got caught. Then, we tried the way they do with feral cats, setting the trap up by wiring it open so she could eat the food and go back out again. Night 1, no one ate the food (we have raccoons and other animals around). Night 2, the food was eaten. Night 3, food further into the trap, eaten. Night 4, food all the way at the back of the trap- eaten. Night 5, food not eaten. Night 6, "armed" the trap by removing the wires and put food in- tried to stay awake listening for the trap to snap shut, wondering if it would be her or another critter in the trap. No need to worry- food was uneaten! And same thing on night 7, 8, 9, 10. Very disappointing. By now, it had been 5 weeks and only one sighting of her in the previous two weeks. It rained, she didn't come home. I left the garage door open a bit so she could get in but whether she did that at night or not, we didn't know. So on Tuesday night this week, I decided to try again- set up the trap, put some really stinky mackerel and tuna at the back of the trap, checked it every 2 hours or so- nothing eaten, door still wide open. So I decided I would leave it set up one more night- just left the food in there. Last night about 9:15, I went to let the dog out and half-heartedly grabbed the flashlight, expecting to see it shine on the open mouth of the trap but no- the door had dropped- there was something in there! Brought the dog back inside and then went out and gingerly lifted the blanket away from the top of the trap, not knowing what I would find- a raccoon?, a skunk?, a rat?, a seagull? Someone else's cat? No, it was Molly- looking up at me with a look on her face that clearly said "busted!".
I was so happy to bring her inside and to pick up the phone to let Wendy know that, after 39 days, Molly was safe! As advised, I treated her as i would a feral cat- left her in the trap, with a blanket over it and took her to the vet this morning. They sedated her enough to keep her from panicking and were able to thoroughly check her out, test for viruses, look for bites and abscesses, take the mats out of her very long coat, treat her for fleas and worms and by 11:00, she was in her crate, ready to go back to Wendy! By 1:30, we got off the ferry, met up with Wendy and Molly was on her way back home- really in very good shape for a cat who had chosen to live in the bush for nearly six weeks! I am so glad I tried just one more time! What a relief!"

Thank you for the update Pam. Way to go!!

Chucky is home with his family after found

him stuck up in a tree!

Here is an email from Chucky's family:

"We found Chucky!  My husband Kyle looked high and low for hours and finally heard Chucky meowing--he was WAY up high in a tree and all the way out on the end of a branch that was hanging over a fast creek!   It took awhile to get up there and get Chucky down, but we were successful and he is now home safe.  He is doing well......just very hungry and tired!

Thanks for your website and your encouraging information.  Its hard to imagine him up in that tree for 3 full days but we are just so glad he is home! "

Thanks again,
Annie

And it turns out that the little grey kitten named Tex is awfully glad to have his big brother back home too!

FAMILY LOCATES THEIR SENIOR DOG

AFTER 10 DAYS ON HIS OWN!

Shiva, a 13 year old Rottweiler cross went missing on Halloween in Langdale. But he was just found by his family in the woods. The following email was sent to Safe and Sound today on November 10th/09:

LULU IS HOME!

LULU, a 3 year old black, long-haired tabby went missing from the North Road/Reed Road/Cemetery Road in the Gibsons area, and was been missing since Thursday, September 24th, 2009.
Thankfully, after a week and a half, Lulu reappeared at her front door! Her owner is very happy to have her home and wrote the following email to Safe and Sound:

"I cannot BELIEVE it! Lulu is safe and sound at home after being gone for almost a week and a half. She's looking great too! I'm guessing someone has been feeding her.

It's so bizarre. I literally was checking out your site looking at the "reunions". Walked out of my office and there she was sitting at the front door. YEAH!

Thank you so, so much for having made this site available to pet lovers on the coast. It's really appreciated."

Signed, a very happy Buffy and Lulu.

'LITTLE GIRL', HOME AGAIN AFTER 8 DAYS!

"Little girl" was last seen Aug 6 in the afternoon- she is a med haired grey/tan/white cat. she is mostly indoors and will be a bit shy of strangers. She's very well fed and therefore has a bit of a tummy. She was last seen at our home but didn't come Aug 6th night and hadn't been seen since. She was missing from her home in the 7700 block of Redrooffs in Halfmoon Bay.

But her family posted 'lost signs' all over the area and this is what brought Little Girl home. The following email was sent to Safe and Sound on August 19th.

" I have GREAT news-"Little Girl" is now safe and sound back home. She was found way up the street in the 7800 block of Redrooffs, funny enough at a friends house that didn't even know what she looked like. So thank goodness i posted all those photos of her all around the neighbourhood as that is what helped bring her back home.

I had three phone calls from three different folks within hours of posting "little Girl's" photo up. It wasn't those calls that help bring her back but it sure made us feel better that at least people were of aware that a cat was missing and every time the phone rang we had renewed hope that this might be the call.
Your advice was VERY valuable and your tips on your site is what kept us going. Every night we would head out with our flash lights to see if we could see her eyes looking back at us.

It was a very emotional 8 days, with a wonderful out come.

Your site really helped us feel that we had done the best we could do in helping aid in "little Girls" safe return.

With many thanks and much graditude. the Campbell Family"

BITCHU THE DOG IS HOME AFTER BEING MISSING SINCE AUGUST 1st!

Bitchu (Bite chew), a dalmatian crossed with border collie was staying with a family while her mom was on holidays.  She forced her way out of a blockaded door on Saturday afternoon (august 1st) at the top of Orange Road.
But today she was found and the following email was sent to Safe and sound:

"Great News!!!!   Bitchu has returned... 3am Aug 13.  She had been seen on the Mountain trails Tuesday the 4th.  A week of hiking and calling no results.  I guess she doesn't like thunder and lightning as she came back amid the storm last night wet and tired.  She is home with her owner and we are thankful for your web site and tips.  I forwarded the stats you quoted to bolster my friend's hopes.  It helped... I am glad she was one of the 99%.  Thank you again!"

LUCY HOME AFTER 9 DAYS ON HER OWN!!
(April 15th/09)

Lucy went missing on April 6th/09 when she ran off during a hike. Nine days later she was taken in by someone who then spotted a poster that Lucy's family had put up and now they have been reunited!

JESSE'S FAMILY FOUND HER!!

She was lost ON FEBRAURY 1st 2009 at 3:00 P.M. at a rental cottage just north of Davis Bay.  She went missing from the beach area. She and her family were just visiting the Sunshine Coast. Her family searched everywhere for her but sadly had to return home to the Lower Mainland without her. But they returned a few days later and continued their search and found Jesse!! They are all happy to be back together again.
Below is the email Safe and Sound received from Jesse's family this morning:

"WE FOUND HER!!! We kept going back to the area she was lost in and FINALLY we heard barking.  We found her inside one of the cottages on the property we stayed at.  We have no idea how she got inside.  We do know that she wasn't there before because we went all around that cottage many, many times.  The owner couldn't believe it because we don't know how she got in there.

Thank goodness for you sending me that email and telling us to go back to the property.  (We did go back but she still wasn't there). I am so glad because we almost threw in the towel as Jesse is such a loyal dog she always comes when we call and I really don't think she was in the area when we were calling her the first few days.  But she did come back.
The other scary thing is that the owner said that no one would be going on to the property until the WEEKEND.  So she would have maybe been locked in that cottage until then.
It's just such a strange thing.
Lara, our family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts for being such a caring person to absolute strangers.  You truly are a wonderful and special person.
Thank you for helping bring Jesse home.  She is an important part of our family.  Keep up the good work!!!"
Love, Sheralea, Sean, Taetm, And of course, Jesse

"Just wanted ot let you know that our Jaspurr came home tonight!! We are thrilled!  Thanks for the info to help us out and for putting his photo on your page.  I had put his small scratch post and blanket outside a few days ago, for something familiar, and I think it worked!!!  Thanks again, we are over the moon!!"

Haley the bird is home with her family!
Safe and Sound received the following email from her owner:

"Haley was gone three nights, and flew from Gibsons to Langdale.  She landed in the backyard of a lady who is the mother of my fiancés best friend from elementary school.  She called my fiancés mother because she remembered the family liked birds!!!  We got Haley back last Wednesday night, which is a total miracle.  This is the benefit of living in a small town, eh?
Thanks so much for posting our ad, we really appreciate it. Haley is indeed home, safe and sound." Sarah

Pyewacket is safe!
May 16th/08

Pyewacket, a beautiful 7 month old Bengal slipped out of her house on May 11th and had never been outside before!
I got an email this morning from Pyewacket's family saying that she showed up by their door on the 15th. She was considerably thinner but appears to be in good condition. She's off to the vet for an exam to make sure but her family is so glad to have her back.

As demanding as always. The picture is this morning in the sun on her favorite chair.  Must be nice to be a cat!
Thank you for posting on your site. It is a wonderful service."

BOSTON, THE LITTLE SENIOR DOG WHO WENT MISSING IN GIBSONS HAS BEEN FOUND AFTER 9 DAYS!
(April 15th,2008)

Boston is deaf and partially blind and 15 years old. He went missing April 5th from his home.

Safe and Sound received this email from a very relieved family today:

"Boston has been found after 9 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are so happy, he is very scrawny, very hungry, very dirty.
A fellow who lives on Gower Pt Rd saw him in the middle of the road wandering around.  He picked him up and delivered him home safe & sound! He is going to the spa and vet today.
Thank you for all your help and concern!"

BELLE HADN'T BEEN SEEN FOR 3 DAYS BUT SHE WAS FINALLY REUNITED WITH HER FAMILY AFTER SPENDING THE WEEKEND WITH THE S.C.R.D.

Belle, a friendly one year old dog disappeared on January 11th and her family looked for her for 3 days and put up posters everywhere. As it turned out, she had spent the weekend with in the S.C.R.D. dog pound but she is now back home with her family!

B.C. Hydro Meter Reader Found Cleo!!

Cleo's family was very concerned when they lost her on News Years Eve. They live in Squamish but were just visiting the Sunshine Coast when Cleo went missing.  She was last seen in Gibsons near a family friend's home and her owners looked for her every day. They put out a blanket for her and food but never saw her. Cleo was finally found by a  B.C. Hydro meter reader a week later in the same area she had gone missing and in the same area that her family had been searching.
She is now back with her family and they have reported that she is doing very well and is resting comfortably by the fire.

Cookie is home!
After searching tirelessly for their missing dog Cookie, her family finally found her, hungry and sore but okay.Cookie spent almost a week out in the cold and wet weather but she is now back with her loving family!!

(Below is the good news I received via email yesterday)
"Hi Lara,She's home!  We found her last night at 11:00, at Bonniebrook Beach where we had left her blanket. Graham sat there with the car and her bowl of food was next to the blanket. The smell of the food brought her there!  ThankGod!
She's very stiff and sore, so we're keeping her very quiet today. We'll take her to the vet tomorrow to have her checked out.  She's very happy to be home!
Please let us know how to make a donation to your web site.  Your site, as well as the support we got from the community, was the only sense of comfort and solace that I had. It was a truly horrible experience.
All the best and thanks so much", Wendy and Graham

Photon is safe!

Dec. 3, 2007

Photon, an all white cat had just moved with his family to Halfmoon Bay from Burnaby a few days earlier. He went out to investigate his new surroundings and shortly after the big snowfall hit. His family couldn't find him but thankfully, 12 hours later he returned cold but safe. His owners sent along this email shortly after:

"Photon had escaped out of the house at 8:00 a.m. and only a few days after arriving here from Burnaby.  I was especially concerned when the other cat he left  with returned home after a few hours.  It was so very cold here all day.  By 8:30 p.m. that evening  I was really concerned that the cat was long gone and lost.
Just moments after I sent the email to you, I went out again to check for Photon, and found tiny fresh footprints in the snow. I quickly went to the back door.  There was Photon nervous, cold and hungry, but in pretty good shape.  I'm not even sure he was aware that he had made it home!  He is a very special sweet cat,  and I'm happy to say that his instincts were good enough for him to find his way back here.  He was gone for 12 freezing hours.  I wonder if he headed down to the ocean near here and towards the direction of Burnaby.  As this would have proved too challenging, he would have had to make his way back to his new home.
Thanks for your site that offers some hope through those gut-wrenching hours that pets are missing. Sorry that you did not get the good news sooner....Yes, Photon is now grounded for a few days." Very best regards, Kathy

Chloe Came Home!

(posted November 2nd,2007)

Nine days ago this beautiful tabby named Chloe disappeared but then on November 1st she walked in the door of her home as if nothing had happened. A bit of a mystery!
Her family says she is no worse for wear and had a good night's sleep. They are thankful to have her home again.

Update!

The following email was sent to Safe and Sound from Chloe's family and explains why this little girl was missing for 9 full days.

"Hello Lara, Last Friday (the day after Chloe returned), I got a call
from a lady who does house-cleaning for a next door but one neighbor.  He is 96 years old.

Every week or so she does his laundry and goes outside his house and then inside to his basement where the washing machine is located.  She said she thinks Chloe followed her in.  Nine days later, after she had repeatedly heard a cat calling (she previously thought the sound was coming from a cat in a nearby tree!), she went into the basement and there was Chloe.  That is when Chloe hi-tailed  her way home.  She had been without food or water for NINE days!!!!

The lesson from Chloe's experience is:  Always check with neighbours and confirm your cat is not locked away by mistake.  We are amazed that Chloe survived this experience."

Because of Chloe's experience, Safe and Sound began telling everyone who has lost their cat to speak directly with their neighbours and ask them to check their basements and outbuildings. We hope that Chloe's story will be able to keep other cats safe.

ROCCO'S BACK!

The following email was sent to Safe and Sound on November 3rd/07:

"Rocco has been found! Yipeee! He seems fine, thirsty and hungry but happy to be home. Thank you for all your support it means a lot when you can have support for those hard times. He was found by a friend in our local area this morning a little out of it. My husband was able to get his attention and bring him home. Lots of sad tears and now happy ones."

CAT REUNITED AFTER BEING MISSING FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS!

An adult cat with Siamese markings was found on September 3rd 2007 in Gibsons. This cat had a tattoo that was eventually traced back to the Gibsons Animal Hospital where it was discovered that the cat's family had moved from Gibsons to Roberts Creek and this cat had been missing for almost 3 years! The following email was sent to Safe and Sound this morning:

"Hello Lara  .. CAT REUNITED WITH OWNER..
The cat that was found on North Rd, in Gibsons, SEPTEMBER 6/07 has been claimed by owner.   This cat dissapeared almost 3 years ago, the owner could not believe it was her cat!  Traced the owner through the tattoo in the ear by calling the Vet that tatooed the cat.  Was a great reunion!  The owner used to live on North Rd, but moved to Roberts Creek about 3 years ago, and the cat went missing from there." Thanking you so much,  Shirley

BUZZ HAS BEEN FOUND AFTER 2 MONTHS ON HIS OWN!!

The following email was sent to Safe and Sound on June 30th, 2007:

"Buzz has been found!! A neighbor picked him up yesterday morning, we verified his tattoo. His owner flew over to Sechelt and returned WITH BUZZ all within a couple of hours. Buzz seemed very calm and content with life. I think HE was the one who decided it was time to be caught. That was 2 months he was gone--only a couple of blocks away--where we had been looking all this while....

Many thanks for your help." Rita

MALAMUTE RETURNED TO FAMILY...

This was the original posting for a malamute who was found in Pender Harbour on May 30th:
"We found a dog today. She just walked up our road, I guess from the highway... She is an older husky/malamute with a sore right front paw.  She has a black collar with a red and black pattern in it, but no other I.D. (tattoo, tag, etc.). She's very sweet and has obviously been around dogs and cats because she doesn't even react when they sniff her.  Somebody has got to be missing her!
We found her on the road to McNeill Lake (off the Sunshine Coast Highway) on Wednesday May 30 at about noon.  We'll be around through Friday PM, after which a neighbor has volunteered to look after her since we'll be out of town.  If you know who this dog belongs to please contact:..."

This is an email I received on June 1st regarding this dog's reunion:

"Hi Lara, Good news on the lost malamute that came to our home on the McNeill Lake road!  Her owners had been looking for her after she had run off after some dirt bikers while they were camping in the Kleindale area (pretty far from here!).  They got our name from the SPCA (whom we had contacted) and later saw our signs with her picture.  So she is home with the folks now, a little more tired and sore of foot, but safe and sound! Thanks for the service!" Jackie

MYKA IS HOME!

Posted: March 7th, 2007

Myka, a shy 1 year old straight haired Golden Doodle went missing on January 9th, 2007  in the Gibsons area where the highway & Lower Rd. meet.
But there is good news! The owner of Myka went to look for him on a trail in the lower Gibsons area where they had been before after they received many tips about sightings of him there.
His family reports that he is very happy to be home and in pretty good shape despite his ordeal. He had some big mats in his fur and was covered in some pitch as well. All that has been removed and he is on the mend. Glad to hear he is back home!

'EGGY' IS BACK WITH HIS FAMILY!

'Egbert' became lost in the woods at the Highway 101 bypass in Gibson's at 5:30 p.m on March 1, 2007.  A dog meeting his description was seen on Highway 101 heading toward the ferry at 8:00 p.m. that evening. He was later found on March 5th.

The following message was sent to me today (March 5th/07):

"Hi Lara, I am pleased to report that EGBERT HAS BEEN FOUND; a little worse for the wear, but okay.  Here's the story.  A man living down by the ferry found him and put up a notice in the post office that he had found a little dog.  A lady saw the notice, connected it to one of my son's posters, and alerted the man.  He then called my son who went and got him. Many thanks for everything."
Regards, Chris Murphy

'BOB' GOES HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!
The posting below was originally sent to Safe and Sound in November by a family who had 'Bob' as a temporary guest for awhile:

"This initially nervous,  black and white cat arrived at our home around the first of November. We live on Blower Road in Wilson Creek. It has a tattoo in it's right ear that is hard to read.
It is a medium to long hair. This cat has white whiskers, a white lower jaw and chest and white feet with the right rear leg being mostly white on the inside and out. The left rear leg has a white stripe at the hock. The fur on the lower back has more of a reddish-brown hue to it and the tail tapers out to a thin, possibly chewed end."

Shortly after gaining 'Bob's' trust a bit more they managed to read his tattoo and emailed it to me here at Safe and Sound. I recognized it as an Eagle Ridge tattoo and gave them a call. The staff at Eagle Ridge was very helpful and contacted the owner so he could then contact the family who had taken 'Bob' in.

As it turns out, the house that Bob used to live at in Wilson Creek burned down a few months ago and he and another cat went missing that day. He was never more than a block away the whole time. Thankfully, in the beginning of November a kind family noticed him and made an effort to begin tracking down this little guy's family. Thanks to them and Eagle Ridge Veterinary Hospital, Bob will be home for Christmas. :0)

LILY HAS BEEN FOUND!

The following message was posted when Lily first went missing:

Lily went missing around Oct.31st from hansen Rd in Roberts Creek. She is only a year old and has a crooked tail and is very friendly. She is a small Tortoise Shell cat who comes when she is called. I miss her dearly. If anyone has seen Lily please email me.

Two weeks later Lily was taken in by some caring people who reunited her this morning with her owner. They sent the following email to me on November 13th:

LITTLE DOG: LOST ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT!
A little 8lb Pekinese X female named "Goldie" went

missing on Halloween night at 7:00p.m. from her home

in Roberts Creek near the legion.

UPDATE:

Apparently a lady was out walking her dogs in Roberts Creek and one of the dogs spotted Goldie and she was rescued after a long, cold night.  Such good news!

'ANNABELLE', THE TORTIE IS BACK WITH FAMILY...

'Annabelle', a short haired tortoise shell had gone missing on August 5th in Gibsons where she was temporarily staying at her owner's mother's house during some house renovations. It was thought that Annabelle might be trying to find her way back to her home in Sechelt. I recently received the following email from her very relieved owner:

"Hello - regarding lost tortoiseshell tabby missing on August 5th...Great news, Annabelle has returned and she is just fine. Just after I finished plastering the neighbourhood with lost cat  posters, she showed up. We are both soooo relieved and happy.

I just want to tell you that this website brought me so much hope -  the reunion stories are so heartwarming.... THANK YOU a MILLION TIMES  over...." Please take care, Karen and Annabelle

MAGGIE CAME BACK!

The following email was sent to me on August 9th from Maggie's owners:
"We are relieved to report that Maggie is safely home.   She was found on Sunday sitting outside of Clint's studio (we had left the door open but she didn't go in).   We don't know where Maggie had been for the three days she was missing, she was hungry and thirsty and happy to be home.   We do not let our cats roam as there are so many hazards for them - caught by predators, hit by vehicles, disease, etc. plus they are not out killing and maiming wildlife - so we built them an outdoor play area which they enter from a cat door in our kitchen.  Unfortunately, Maggie managed to escape out an open window.
We would like to say how much we appreciate your website and the concern you show for the animals posted there. What a wonderful service you are providing for the people of the Sunshine Coast.  Thank you! "Irene

JENNY THE DOG IS BACK HOME WITH FAMILY...

The following email was sent to me today regarding Jenny:

"Dear Lara; I am writing to let you know that Jenny has been found and is now back with her family. Thank you so much for posting her picture on your website. We truly appreciate all the help and support we received from so many people on the Coast. Thank you."

'CHESTER' IS HOME SWEET HOME!

The following email was sent to the website today (July 21st):

"Chester', the Black cat has returned home after
nearly THREE weeks away! (had thought a coyote got him)

Nearly skin and bones and VERY vocal about his ventures.  I don't think he'll be travelling far from home for a while!

His furry cat pal Wookie is almost glad he's back - I'm sure he'll get
over it soon."

AFTER HEARING THE SOUND OF A FAMILIAR WHISTLE, BRAZIL CAME OUT OF THE WOODS AND IS NOW BACK HOME...

"Brazil is Found!  After over two week on his own near coyote infested woods Brazil was found less than two blocks away from where he went missing.  He had found a secure spot under an older building and was staying there at nights.  We had spoke to the owner two weeks before and had posted signs.  When the owner, Claire, saw a cat make a dash through her yard one day she wondered if it would be our lost cat. We arranged for a trap to be set by Happy Cat Heaven the next day but before they could come we set food out and I taught Claire a familiar way to whistle to him.  That evening he came around again and when when she made the calls he came straight to her and she called us. REUNION! He had grown very thin but is adjusting to his new home quite well. I have had to seek help in matters of integrating a new cat and it is happening slowly but surely.  My other three are slowly accepting him. Thank you for your site."

OZZIE THE LIZARD IS BACK HOME WITH HIS FAMILY!

Ozzie has been found after more than a week on his own in Madeira Park. His owners sent the following note by email on June 30th/06:

"Hi Lara, I am very happy to report that Ozzie our lizard has been found, safe & sound after 9 days and eight nights out on the loose.I had almost given up hope, and only this morning had our son put his things away in the basement, thinking an eagle got him,or some other horrible fate had come to him.I was still looking for him though, and earlier tonight our dog smelled something in the bush, and I was searching and plowing through brambles. Then later we were having cake & tea with friends and family and the dog barked- we looked out our living room window and there was our neighbour, Gary holding up the Ozzie with two hands for all to see. He had been out for a walk, saw the poster for the first time, and thought he would keep an eye out for a lizard, and there was Ozzie on the side of the road in the grass just a bit further along. We were all so happy!! I think Ozzie is happy to be safe at home in his secure warm little environment, he fell asleep on my shoulder within a few minutes.Tomorrow we will have to find some crickets for him.I will send a picture along then.  Thank you so much for your support. It is a great service you have."
Sincerely, Marion Chell

'GORP' HAS BEEN FOUND!

July 1st,2006

'Gorp' was found by neighbours in Gibsons in the North road and Marine Drive area after they spotted a lost sign that had been posted on her street.  She does have an injured foot but seems to be okay otherwise. As her owner put it in an email sent to the website:  "A friend said a cat has nine lives. Well, Gorp has about two left, but I'm sure glad she's home."

'RANGER' IS BACK HOME WITH HER BROTHER 'KINK'!
'Ranger', a friendly 4 yr. old female, black and white cat went missing on January 8th, 2006 from the beach near the old Wakefield Inn. She was dearly missed by her family and by her brother, 'Kink'. 'Kink' became depressed in her absence and often 'meow-cried' for her while she was gone.

More than five weeks later, she has

been found.

Her owner sent the following message on February 18th, 2006:

"GOOD NEWS !!!!!  5&1/2 weeks after Ranger went missing she has surfaced at one of the neighbours houses.  She was found in the greenhouse across the highway about 1 block away.  It is assumed that she spent the time away in the woods surrounding the area and just found humans in the last 2 days.  She is very thin, but in good spirits and is happy to be in a warm bed with good food and at home.  Her brother is getting used to having her back as he was getting alot of extra attention while she was away.  Welcome home Ranger !!!!!"

WINNIE'S HOME!

January 3rd, 2006

Winnie, who went missing on New Year's Eve in Sechelt was taken in by some kind people who found her sitting in their driveway. She has since been reunited with her owner and is now back home!

Is 'Cosmo' home? December 11th, 2005

"Dear Lara....I can hardly believe I am writing this letter.  My daughter and I contacted you at the end of June.  We had lost our big, black fluffy cat Cosmo Kitty.  Well, I guess miracles really do happen.  Two nights ago we saw a big fluffy tail scurry through our cat door.  It was late and I ran outside in my socks ...this kitty was scared and kept inching away from me ....it looks like our cat but I can't be sure.  So, I stayed up late again to see if "the cat" will come again.....Unbelievably it returns.  This time I am sure it is Cosmo.  He is so shy; nothing like the lovable happy go lucky guy we all know and love.  But it's him......after 6 months.  He looks so troubled.  I hope I can get closer to him for a tickle.  I will keep you posted!!"

And then on December 20th...
'COSMO' IS HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!

December 20th,2005

The following is an update that I received via email from the owners of 'Cosmo', a black fluffy cat who had been missing for 6 months:
"Good news!!! It is Cosmo and he is now spending each night in our wood shed.  I have stayed up each night and watched him come in and eat.  Still very skiddish....but hopefully in time he'll warm up to us. We are going to win him back slowly (with treats!)  :o) Merry Christmas", Anne-Marie & family

CARPET HAS BEEN FOUND!
NOVEMBER 3, 2005

'Carpet', an elderly long haired tabby who is blind went missing on October 26th near the firehall in Gibsons. 'Carpet' has been found! The following email was sent to me on Nov. 3rd:

"Good News! Carpet was found and returned to us today. I can't believe she survived a whole week, the people that brought her home only found her last night a block away from our house. If possible on your site could you mention a big Thank you to Michelle and Barry that found her and a huge thank you to Violet from Happy Cat Haven, that helped everyone find each other.
Thanks again, What a relief." Julie

Yogi has been found!
Yogi went missing on Sunday, Oct. 23rd from his home on Reef road. His owner posted dozens of posters all around Sechelt and did an extensive search for him. He was discovered a few days later right next door. He had wandered over to visit the neighbours house that was under renovation and was accidentally locked inside the house. He was found by the carpenter who then spoke with the owner of the house who then contacted Yogi's owner. Yogi's many fans were very relieved to hear the news, including me!

Frank is back!...Again :0)
OCT. 23RD/2005

"I have some GOOD news for you this time. Frank the moustached polydactyl has returned once more!! He came back last Sunday after being gone for TWELVE long days. He was found by hikers in the woods near our place. He was way up a skinny little tree and couldn't get down. I coaxed him down with some food and carried him all the way home. He was in pretty rough shape and went from 14 to 9 pounds but his fever is gone and he is on the road to recovery now!

I want this post to let other owners out there to have hope that their lost pets can come back. I read once that lost cats are usually within a three city-block radius of their home. If they are hurt they may be silently hiding very nearby in the bushes and if they are lost then they are often in that 3-block radius. This proved true for us..as the crow flies it was only three blocks but it was quite the trek in the woods and bog. Get out there and knock on neighbour's doors and poster the neighbourhood! It can work!
I am so grateful to the kind Roberts Creek family who took the time to call me and take me out to where he was on a rainy day after seeing his Missing poster. Thank you!"

Injured grey cat is back home with her family!

The owners of 'Lilac' (temporary shelter name) thought their cat had not survived an attack by racoons. They looked for her but were unable to find her until they spotted her photo that the SPCA posted in the Reporter. They have been reunited with their cat and she is now back with her family! Below is the original posting sent by the SPCA before her family was located:

GREY CAT FOUND IN SECHELT...
A badly injured cat was
found on Salmon Drive,
in Sechelt  on Oct. 4th, 2005 She was immediately taken for treatment at the veterinary hospital and after surgery and recuperation she was sent to the SPCA on Oct. 12th.
The cat (now named Lilac by the shelter staff) had severe injuries which are believed to have been inflicted by another animal, maybe a raccoon.  There are numerous puncture wounds on her back and due to injuries her tail and one toe have been amputated, also most of her claws were almost pulled out, which could have happened from Lilac hanging onto something while being dragged.

Lilac has is very unusual colouring almost a beige with a lilac tint, she is approx. 10 years old and did have a flea collar on at the time she was taken to the veterinary clinic.

'MERLIN' HAS BEEN FOUND!

'Merlin', an orange tabby. went missing in early August when he and his family were on their way back home to Vancouver after a trip to Lund. He became car sick and jumped out of the car and ran into a blackberry bramble next to the Wakefield Inn. Being from Vancouver, 'Merlin' did not know the area but somehow managed to survive for over 5 weeks on his own. He was discovered by Rick and Donna of the Wakefield Pub the other day and 'Merlin' is back with his family in Vancouver now. (no picture available)

I received this email from the owner of 'Merlin' yesterday:

"Guess what??????  I received a call yesterday (5 weeks after Merlin was lost) from Rick and Donna of the Wakefield Inn Pub.  Merlin had walked up to the pub.  It was the first time they saw him, and because of your poster (which they had read) they phoned me.  I drove to Sechelt today and Merlin is now home - a lot slimmer.  Thank you for your help."

Gratefully, Michele G.

THE DAY AFTER 'GRACIE' CAME HOME, THE OWNER HEARD MEOWING OUTSIDE AND FOUND THAT HER CAT 'LEWIS' WAS ABOUT 200 FEET UP IN A TREE. THE OWNER EMAILED THE WEBSITE TODAY TO LET US KNOW THAT 'LEWIS' HAS BEEN RESCUED FROM THE TREE AND IS VERY THIN BUT AFTER 3 WEEKS HE IS HOME!

FRANK IS BACK!

SEPT. 17TH/2005

Yep, the neat looking black and white cat with extra toes just wandered in the front door on Sunday afternoon after being gone for 3 days. He has a puncture wound on his side but otherwise seems to be okay. Frank's disappearance was especially stressful for his owners because two of their other cats have gone missing recently from their Roberts Creek home and Frank was a cat who always stuck close to home. Only Frank knows what happened on his adventure but his family is so happy and relieved to have him home again. Great news!

The Captain is home!

ADORED FAMILY PET HAS BEEN FOUND

"Capitan has been with us for 10 years since we adopted him from the streets of Mexico after he had been run over by a bus.  He is medium-sized, white with black patches, walks with a limp and wears a leather sock over an old injury on his front paw."

The Capitan had been lost on Bonniebrook Beach the night of August 10, 2005 but was found after much searching by his owners Michelle and Dave on the beach on Thursday, the following day. They are very happy and relieved.

Kiko FOUND JULY 16/05!!!!

Kiko an orange and white male cat had gone missing June 15th 2005 in the middle of a move with his owners from their home in Vancouver to their new home in Powell River. He and his owners were staying at the Lord Jim's Resort for one night as a 'stop-over' on their way to Powell River when he slipped out of their hotel door and disappeared into the woods. His owners had to continue on to Powell River but returned soon after to put up posters all over the place in hopes of finding him.
One month later, almost to the day, a couple named Susan and John came into the Sechelt Animal Hospital to report that they had a very friendly and very hungry orange and white cat hanging around their cabin near Lord Jim's Resort. They were from Vancouver but just happened to be staying at their summer cabin for a vacation.
They looked at his picture on this website and felt sure that it was him. They had copied down his tattoo number as well which later confirmed that this was indeed the missing "Kiko".
Susan and John headed back to their cabin to get the cat and brought it to the animal hospital. "Kiko" settled into his kennel immediately with soft blankets and lots of food and water. He seemed so relieved to have been rescued.
His owners were contacted and they were so happy to learn that he was safe. They caught a ferry the following morning to come and get "Kiko". The moment they arrived at the hospital and approached his cage he stood up and raced to the bars recognizing them immediately. He had a look about him as if to say "I have been looking all over for you guys!!!" Many hugs and snuggles followed before their journey back to Powell River.

*Photo below on the left was taken just as Kiko see's his family arrive at the Sechelt Animal Hospital for the first time in over a month.

*The photo below on the right is of Kiko and his relieved owner just a few minutes after their reunion. Shortly afterwards, they headed back to catch the ferry to Powell River.

"NONI" IS HOME SAFE!

Noni, a beautiful himalayan, is finally back home after quite an adventure. She had escaped from her owners car in the parking lot of the Gibsons shopping mall on April 30/05 but a very kind couple who noticed her on their porch on May 8th gave her some food. The next day she came around again and they looked in the newspaper and saw the ad for the SAFE AND SOUND website. They didn't have a computer themselves but  called a relative who did who looked on the site and found a posting about Noni. The owner was then contacted and it was confirmed that this beautiful lost cat was their missing 'Noni'. After 10 days of being lost, Noni is home!
